I then did a bit of research and tried the solution posted on which consisted of starting Windows (Windows 7 Starter) in safe mode, checking the proxy settings in internet options (which were unaffected), then running RKill followed by Malwarebytes. It appeared to do this but it is still on here as the pop-ups are still happening on start-up and continue whilst the computer is on. Once I realized I had a nasty on my PC I tried to uninstall it via control panel.
